2011 Premier League Darts Betting Week 7 – Brighton, Thursday March 24th

Time for Premier League darts betting action again, as the long competition rolls on again. The biggest action really has been the turnaround in form of superstar Phil “The Power” Taylor, who is really building momentum again. Taylor really lost heavily on the opening week of the tournament, and all sorts of rumours and speculations popped up, questions whether he was past his best, whether he had ran out of steam and things of that ilk. However, there is no better way to answer critics than by putting in great performances at the oche, and that is what the master has done since then. With consecutive victories over Mark Webster, Terry Jenkins, Raymond van Barneveld, Gary Anderson and Simon Whitlock, Taylor has fired himself to the top of the table. Perhaps the really big result came when he beat Gary Anderson, who up until their meeting had gone unbeaten in the 2011 Premier League Darts tournament. With five wins from six matches now, all of the momentum is with Taylor now, as he heads the table by two points from Gary Anderson and Raymond van Barneveld. The action now moves on to the Brighton Centre on Thursday, with a big clash between the latter two and a big chance for Taylor to press home his advantage at the top of the league, as he goes in search of his sixth Premier League title. His is the player in the mood right now, and even after he stumbled at the start of the season, has remained outright favourite to take the title again, so is worth backing still.
Mark Webster v Simon Whitlock

Well, Welshman Mark Webster simply looked as if he was the player who was going to make the really big surprise impact in the competition this year. After beating Taylor at the World Championships, Webster looked to really have stepped up his development and challenge to the best in the world. However, his challenge here has fallen a little flat, winning just two of his six matches, but now squares off against Australian Simon Whitlock, who is always a bit hit and miss, but who stands on the same record as him in the table. There really is very little to split the two in terms of stats, but Webster has been the bit more consistent in scoring tons, and that could tip the balance in his favour here. Whitlock has looked at times if he is going to struggle to keep pace and interest in the tournament, and this just look like a great opportunity for Webster to get himself back into contention with a win.

Adrian Lewis v Terry Jenkins

The big question about the new World Champion Adrian Lewis coming into the tournament, was over his consistency. If one trait is needed for success in the Premier League of Darts, then it is consistency, something which Phil Taylor has in spades. Lewis is showing that inconsistent side of himself again, fluctuating between wins and losses here. Scored a huge boost over Gary Anderson last week in Glasgow, although the home fans weren’t happy, and a pint of beer was thrown at Lewis. Still, this is a good chance to build some momentum again, as Terry Jenkins looks as if he is the weak link in the tournament. Jenkins looks as if he is going to struggle the most over the course of the league matches, an therefore, Lewis, who has three wins from three this season, should be able to close this one out. Jenkins is just struggling to win legs with -13 difference in his record his season. With Lewis healthily in the plus, would go with the more dynamic and hungry player here. Darts are with him too, so back him.

Phil Taylor v James Wade

The two paired up last year as world number one and number two for the World Cup of darts, and suffered a shock defeat early in the tournament. Wade looks anything but that world number two status he held then, and has really stagnated. Looked to have found his feet when he beat Adrian Lewis on week two, but has since suffered some heavy defeats. His only other victory in the Premier League Darts this season was against Terry Jenkins. Wade finds himself at the bottom of the table, level on points with Jenkins, Webster and Whitlock, with two wins from two. However the heavy defeats he has suffered has left him bottom on legs difference, which is at -15 right now. Taylor, on the form his is in now, really should take this match against his English counterpart. Nothing much to suggest an upset going the other way, with The Power winning five matches on the bounce. Finding his best, and finally delivering. Should be too much for Wade to handle on the night, and with the following match, has a great chance to drive home an advantage in the league. Goes with the darts in his favour as well, the odds reflect everything here.

Gary Anderson v Raymond v Barneveld

This is two versus three here, with the players having identical record. Both have four victories from four matches, with both having been defeated by Phil Taylor, the man they need to beat to the top. The loser of this match will lose ground in the race for the top, but should still be steady enough to book themselves a top four place at the end of the season. In his inaugural Premier League Darts season, Anderson has impressed mightily, firing out of the blocks, winning his first four matches before running into Taylor. Anderson has great attacking power and great consistency as well. Would you back him over Barneveld? No, because it is to some surprise just how good a performance Barneveld is putting up in the competition this year. He has never really had a lot of motivation for this tournament, but with four wins out of four, is going well. Goes in to this match on the back of two very solid wins, and this should be a heavy scoring match, going toe to toe all of the way against each other. Darts are with Anderson on this one, but Barneveld has momentum after Anderson has stumbled in the last two weeks.
