Rossoneri seek Real revenge

Champions League action continues on Wednesday when the game of the night will be staged in Italy where Group G giants AC Milan and Real Madrid meet for the second time in the space of two weeks.

The Spanish giants grabbed a comfortable 2-0 success against the Rossoneri at Santiago Bernabeu thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo and Mesut Ozil efforts a fortnight ago.

Real’s playmakers scored within a minute of each other inside the opening quarter to shock the visitors to the core, but the hosts will be desperate for revenge at the San Siro this week.

However, Los Galacticos manager Jose Mourinho will be striving to infuriate the Milanese faithful further still.

After guiding city rivals Internazionale to the Champions League and Serie A titles last term, the Portuguese tactician will want to strike another hammer blow for their qualification aspirations and certainly has the personnel to gain a favourable result.

With Ronaldo, Gonzalo Higuain, Xabi Alonso, Iker Casillas and Angel Di Maria set to be unleashed, the La Liga side should fancy their chances of securing a famous double.

However, former Real striker Robinho is likely to battle for a starting spot alongside Ronaldinho, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Pato in Milan’s own star-studded line-up.

Elsewhere, Group G rivals Auxerre entertain Ajax when the hosts will want to get their first points on the board after three successive defeats in the competition.

Group F leaders Chelsea welcome Spartak Moscow to Stamford Bridge with a 100 per cent record and another victory will see them through to the last-16.

Goals from Yuri Zhirkov and Nicolas Anelka in Russia two weeks ago ensured a comfortable 2-0 win and they are the overwhelming online sportsbook favourites to take the points again.

Marseille need to beat group whipping-boys MSK Zilina to keep the pressure on Spartak while Arsenal make the arduous journey to Ukraine where they will face Shakhtar Donetsk.

Although Arsene Wenger’s men made it three wins from three with a 5-1 triumph over Wednesday’s opponents on their last outing, expect a closer outcome this time around.

Former striker Eduardo notched a consolation for Shakhtar in their thumping setback and will want to show what the Gunners are missing this week.

Portuguese side Braga face Partizan Belgrade with both outfits desperate for three points that would keep their unlikely qualification dream alive.

In Group E, last season’s losing finalists Bayern Munich will be confident of making it four wins from four when they take of CFR Cluj in Romania, while Roma go to Switzerland with FC Basel waiting for them at their St Jakob-Park home.
