Taylor admits Toon frustration

Newcastle defender Ryan Taylor has admitted he is frustrated with his lack of first-team chances this season and that he could be forced to leave.

Taylor has found his way into the first team blocked by the summer signing of James Perch with his only starts coming in the Carling Cup wins at Accrington Stanley and Chelsea this season.

The 26-year-old is keen to be playing on a regular basis and he concedes if his situation does not improve he may be forced to seek a loan move away from St James’ Park.

“There’s only so much time you can keep going without getting too frustrated and I’m hitting that peak at the moment,” bemoaned Taylor.

“When I do play I feel as though I’m doing OK – two goals in two games – but I just don’t seem to be getting a sniff.
Competition
“I know the competition for places is always going to be tough here, but I feel as though I’m training well and when I play I’m doing my best, I’m doing all I can do.

“But when it comes to league games it feels as though the hard work I’m doing is going unnoticed. I’m 26 now – all I want to do is play football.

“There will come a time, maybe this season, when if things still aren’t going my way I’ve got to look at other options. I’m not looking at a loan right now but if you come to me in four or five weeks and I still haven’t played, then I’m going to look at other options.

“I will weigh up my options, but for the time being I’ll stick it out and hopefully get my chance in the next few weeks.”

Taylor added: “There’s only so much I can say to the gaffer and there’s only so much I can do on the training pitch without being in his face too much.

“I’m not one to bash on his door every day but he knows I’m here and he knows I want to play. I’ve got to hopefully get that chance now.

“I’ll keep plugging away. But there’s only so much I can do without getting too frustrated and losing my head a little bit.”

Kick in the teeth
Taylor admits the signing of Perch came as a “kick in the teeth” to him as he tried to establish himself in Chris Hughton’s starting XI.

“It was a bit of blow,” continued Taylor. “He worked with Colin Calderwood at Forest and he knew what he was capable of. But, yeah, it was a kick in the teeth.

“I was hoping to maybe start the season but it didn’t go my way. Now we’ve lost a couple of home games and things maybe aren’t at an all-time high, maybe I’ll get my chance.”
