Steve Menzies will see out his career in the south of France after signing a 12-month contract with Catalans Dragons.

The former Australia international, who helped his country win the World Cup back in 1995, was not offered a new deal by Bradford at the end of the season.

It is believed he turned down offers from both Hudersfield and Harlequins to sign for the Dragons, who finished with the wooden spoon this year.

The move means former Manly forward Menzies, who will turn 37 in December, will move to Perpignan for his final season as a player.
Excited

“I am really excited about going over to Catalans Dragons for one more year,” he said. “The team had a bit of a disappointing season but hopefully we can turn it around.

“It’s a beautiful place to live but I don’t think my French is too good though.”

Despite being the oldest player in the engage Super League, Menzies missed just one match in his two-year stint with the Bulls.

“Steve Menzies ia legend of our sport,” said Dragons general manager Christophe Levy.

“His experience and profile will be valuable to the young French players we have nurtured for the last two seasons and will be ready to play in Super League in 2012.”

The Dragons have overhauled their squad following a disappointing campaign, with Menzies their eighth and final signing for 2011.

New faces

New Catalans coach Trent Robinson has also drafted in Scott Dureau, hooker Ian Henderson, forwards Jason Baitieri and Lopini Paea, centre Vincent Duport, winger Damien Blanch and utility back Ben Farrar.

“I am very happy with the signing of Beaver, who is an iconic player in Australia and will add value to our squad on and off the field,” said Robinson.

“Steve adds versatility and instincts which will be integral in our system at the Catalans next year.”

Currently back home in Australia, Menzies will link up with his new team-mates in November for pre-season training.
