Under-pressure Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson will be hoping he is still in charge of the Premier League strugglers when the transfer window re-opens in January.

The former Internazionale, Blackburn Rovers and Fulham boss has been told he will have a decent kitty to dip into at the start of 2011 in order to right some wrongs.

Recent signings Raul Meireles, Joe Cole, Milan Jovanovic and Christian Poulsen are yet to impress so the onus will shift back to Hodgson as he looks to turn things around at Anfield.

Sitting at the wrong end of the league table, the Merseyside giants are in need of a player overhaul to ease their current pain and their new owners have announced significant amounts of money will be available.

With star men Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard cutting frustrated figures, New England Sports Ventures want to see a number of fresh faces through the Anfield entrance door in the new year and we will take a look at who Hodgson could plump for.

Scott Parker – With Gerrard holding the midfield together almost single-handedly, the West Ham United sensation could be lined up to bolster the engine room on Merseyside.

Although the former Chelsea man is loyal to the Hammers, their current plight could see him trade places should a bid for his exceptional services come in.

Ryan Shawcross – The powerful Stoke City central defender continues to grow and mature as a player and, with stalwart Jamie Carragher getting no younger, the youngster may well be perceived as an ideal long-term replacement.

Shawcross is brave, strong and courageous, traits similar to those of Carragher and he would certainly be a fans’ favourite in front of The Kop.

Gary Cahill – Bolton Wanderers’ star defender looks certain to make a big club move in the future after making his England debut during the 4-0 success over Bulgaria in September.

After suffering a blood clot at the start of the year, Cahill has made a remarkable recovery and continues to be the Trotters’ linchpin in the heart of their back line.

Roque Santa Cruz – The Manchester City striker has already admitted he is looking for a January move after falling down coach Roberto Mancini’s pecking order.

Whether the Citizens would want the Paraguay international to leave for a Premier League rival remains to be seen, but he could fit Liverpool’s bill.

He excelled with Blackburn before his ill-fated switch to Eastlands and is likely to be available for a fraction of the £17.5million City shelled out to Rovers in the summer of 2009.
